"Al-Mamlouk" in Sri Lanka
The Emirati play "Al-Mamlouk" was performed as an honorary show at the eleventh edition of the Colombo International Theatre Festival in Sri Lanka on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, captivating a large audience of theatre enthusiasts in Chilaw. The event brought together theatre troupes from around the globe, offering the Emirati team a valuable opportunity for cultural and artistic exchange with distinguished international artists.
After the performance, a special ceremony was held to honor Mr. Mohamed Safeer, the festival director, in recognition of his outstanding efforts in supporting the international theatre movement and fostering cultural exchange.
It is worth noting that "Al-Mamlouk" has made notable appearances at several prestigious international theatre festivals, including Fujairah International Monodrama Festival, Sharm El-Sheikh International Youth Theatre Festival in Egypt, Kuwait International Monodrama Festival, and the Torino International Festival in Italy, which has further enhanced its reputation and highlighted its artistic and cultural value on the global stage.
The play’s delegation included talented artists such as director Ahmed Abdullah Rashid, actor Abdullah Al Khadim, Talal Al Antali, Khaled Al Dhanhani, and Suleiman Al Shamsi. The team emphasized that their participation aims to strengthen theatrical cooperation between the UAE and Sri Lanka, bring Arabic theatre and language to a wider international audience, and showcase the richness of Arab cultural heritage.
